I write in support of Jodi Leclerc’s efforts to save the Maxwell Community Centre and news that a government inspector has ordered Hertsmere council to clarify the wording of the Elstree Way Corridor Action Plan.
As far as I remember, the community centre was given to the people of Borehamwood by Ivor Bayley — one of the owners of engineering firm BSP Industries in Elstree.
In the early 1960s, many of the groups of the day performed there and it has gone on to serve the community ever since.
Hertfordshire County Council needs to take note of the community it serves because without these community facilities, there is no community, especially as it keeps building more homes.
