From reading a selection of letters from readers who berate the local Conservatives in Hertsmere, it is evident that the Labour Party letter writing panel is at work.
As a parish councillor in Shenley, I am very proud of our Conservative-led achievements over the last four years, including a completely new pond area with a walkway across the water and decorative garden, repairs to the war memorial and a restored Cage (ancient monument), new equipment for children’s play areas, proper drainage for the allotments, trips for pensioners, extra security with a mobile CCTV camera, etc. The list of achievements goes on. Being a prudent council, we also have reserves to use for future requirements. All this work has been done with a tiny increase in council tax. Also, your parish councillors are unpaid volunteers, who spend many hours of their time for the benefit of the community.
It is a pity to read of so much negativity from those who do nothing but criticise for self-gratification and electoral gain. It is a case of ‘empty vessels making the most sound’.
Cllr Anthony Spencer
Chairman, Shenley Parish Council
