I am writing in response to an article in your newspaper (‘Pupils put parliamentary candidate on the spot’, Borehamwood & Elstree Times, March 6).
As a proud grandfather of a pupil at Hertswood Academy, I would like to know who’s ‘bright idea’, note the inverted commas, it was to invite the next Conservative candidate for Hertsmere to their school.
Let’s forget for a moment that this charming gentleman has undermined the pupils’ education through academisation.
Did this gentleman regale his vulnerable young audience with his party’s record in power?
I am 71 years old and the aforementioned man’s party has been in power by far the greater majority of that time.
Did he inform his young audience of his party’s wilful destruction of our car industry, coal industry, steel industry and decimating our manufacturing industries, no doubt prattling on about market forces, never mentioning who this benefits.
All our children have to look forward to is stacking shelves in supermarkets and work in fast food outlets, that doesn’t pay enough to keep body and soul alive.
The famous American novelist Mark Twain once wrote that “some people are always in denial – it’s a pity these same people think that denial is a river that runs through Egypt”.
I am sure Mark Twain had people with similar views to our Conservative candidate in mind.
