A primary school hopes to raise £2,000 to help its pupils settle into school life.
Saffron Green Primary School, in Nicoll Way, Borehamwood, is aiming to bridge the gap between home and school with plans for a new nurture group room.
The room would be arranged to have both classroom and home furniture, giving children a predictable and safe environment at school.
It is designed to allow children who have missed learning opportunities to receive emotional and educational support and develop their self esteem and confidence.
Allison Kaye, of Juniper Gardens, has a lot of fundrasing experience and was asked by her friend headteacher Linda Storey to run the fundraising campaign for the project.
Mrs Storey said: "I am absolutely delighted with Allison's effort. The much needed money will go towards the opening of our nurture room at Saffron Green, which is designed to help children with their emotional literacy, and will be up and running in September."
Among a number of fundraising ideas, Allison Kaye took part in last weekend’s 10K run with her son Sam - managing to win the ladies’ race.
She has also set up a fundraising page through Just Giving, with 24 days left, until July 17, to raise the £2,000 needed for the project.
Mrs Kaye said: “The nurture room is vital and would provide the schoolchildren and parents of Saffron Green support, one to one learning skills, confidence in school and help those with emotional literacy.
“Fundraising isn’t easy. But if everyone donates a small amount then it’s not a big impact on a few.”
