Plans for a new Hertswood Academy that will “change Hertsmere forever” went on display today.
The school in Thrift Farm Lane, Borehamwood, will be bulldozed to make way for new housing – but not everyone is keen on the proposals.
The new design went on show at 96 Shenley Road at 2pm today.
Under the plans, the lower school site in Cowley Hill, Borehamwood, will be redeveloped to create one school building for 1,400 pupils, including 200 sixth form students.
The Ark Theatre and the sports hall will also be demolished and rebuilt, however the existing squash courts will not be.
Sports hall user Peter Cull said: “As a user of the squash courts, I can’t believe this. It’s quite concerning this hasn’t been included in the new provision.”
However headteacher Peter Gillett said: “It’s an amazing opportunity for the community to get behind a very exciting project.
“I think it will be a very unbelievable opportunity, just educationally and for the wider facilities. It’s a superb project.
“The consultation is very important to share their views and to encourage them to offer suggestions, to make it even better than proposed.”
