Smoke rings filled the air as children enjoyed a week of scientific fun and experiments.

Pupils from Cowley Hill School, in Winstre Road, received visits from real scientists to help get them excited about the subject.

Creepy crawlies and animals including spiders, lizards and a skunk were bought into the classrooms.

Children also got to grips with extra science lessons in class, and were given the chance to carry out their own wacky experiments.

On Thursday, children invited their parents to the school to see what they had accomplished during the week.

Many baked cakes to help raise money for flower beds, which will be planted at the school next year.

Children also impressed Borehamwood & Elstree Town Council Mayor Clive Butchins with their newfound knowledge of the subject.

Science coordinator Jo Thompson said: “It was a brilliant week, and the opening evening was a great way to end it all.

“Seeing the children excited and enthusiastic about science was fantastic, and their parents were just as excited as they were.

“I’m pleased with how it all went.”
