Tins of baked beans, meat and cans of soup piled up as shoppers donated food to help feed people in need this Christmas.
Tesco, in Shenley Road, Borehamwood, collected hundreds of different types of food as part of the shop’s new Help Feed People in Need campaign.
The national campaign was launched by the supermarket’s head office last week, after research showed that one in ten have gone without food to feed their family.
The store's Community Champion Marion Naylor said she was thrilled.
The 59-year-old added: “The thing is, you never know when you might be in that situation so that is why it is so important to support a cause like this.
“I was so pleased with how it went. People were so nice and all happy to donate some food to the food bank. They were all really generous and we had a great time collecting.”
The appeal, launched with Foodbank charity Trussell Trust, marked the first nationwide food collection for the cause.
