A distinctively French feel arrived in Hertsmere last week with both Elstree and Borehamwood and Radlett celebrating the relationship with their twin towns in the continent.
Last weekend Radlett welcomed 28 visitors from its French twin town, Louveciennes, including their Mayor, André Vanhollebeke, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their twinning.
Clive Glover, Chairman of Radlett and Aldenham International Friendship Association (RAIFA), said: “Over the years there have been around 80 official exchanges between Aldenham and Louvciennes, as well as many informal exchanges, particularly between families who have become firm friends over the years.
“It was especially nice that a number of the people involved in the original twinning arrangements 25 years ago took part in this visit, but it was also clear that a new generation of families are now taking over.
“We are planning more exchanges involving families with school-age children as these have proved very popular.”
Also last Wednesday, in a bid to promote Elstree and Borehamwood’s partnership with Fontenay aux Roses, a French evening was held at Fairway Hall, in Brook Close, Borehamwood.
Organiser Martine Eni, of the Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association (BETTA) , said: “The hall was packed with people and we had the visit from mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood Councillor Farida Turner.
“She had a great time along with around 120 other people who were able to discover some of the delights of french culture, food and wine “We all had a great time and the people of Borehamwood were really able to appreciate what happens when two cultures work together.”
