Becoming a circus performer was considered an unusual choice for Russ Randelle.
When he was starting out as a teenager in the Eighties, he found that not coming from a circus family could hamper a person’s progression in the industry.
But it turns out Mr Randelle had sawdust flowing through his veins after all — three years ago he got in touch with his long-lost father and discovered he had performed as a circus clown in the Forties and Fifties.
Now Mr Randelle’s son Pip, 17, and daughter Stephanie, 21, also perform with him in a show designed to bring the magic of circus to the theatre, with performances on aerial silks, clowning, juggling and diabolo.
Mr Randelle, who plays Happy the Clown, says: "It’s wonderful having my children perform with me. They’re my biggest supporters. You can’t beat having family around you."
Around the World in 8-Tee-Hee Minutes is on at the Wyllyotts Centre, in Darkes Lane, Potters Bar, on August 21, at 1pm. Tickets cost £8 and are available from the box office on 01707 645005.
